The Lanna Cultural Centre

As I'm sure you're well aware, in the 13th century Chiang Mai was the capital city of the Lanna kingdom, under King Mengrai.

It stayed that way until the early 17th century when marauders from Myanmar invaded and took care of business for the next 200 years or so.

The Lanna culture was heavily influenced by Theravada Buddhism Art.(yes, I had to look it up too. Apparently there are a whopping 28 different Buddhas....)

We strolled through rooms full of examples of Lanna artwork, woodwork and music, and very pleasant it was too, although possibly not terribly enlightening with regard to the 28 Buddhas (and as you know, I've had enough trouble with one)

Some of the 'artwork' on display was of dubious taste, even though it was apparently of 'historical and cultural importance'

(You may want to cover the budgie's cage at this point.....)

Less raunchy, but perhaps no less controversial  was a display of 'Typical Lanna Food'

Sausage and chips anyone???

Most baffling of all was the final image in the final room. I leave it to you to determine what may be going on here.....
